That lovable little Windows 7-powered Cowon W2 MID has gotten two steps closer to reality this week with a price tag and release date. In order, 599,000 to 739,000KRW (equivalent to $533 and $658 in US, respectively) and Monday, January 25th. Unfortunately, those only apply to Korea only, but if you are thinking of importing, how about we take a look at the full specs list: 4.8-inc WSVGA screen, 1.3GHz Intel Atom Z520, 1GB RAM, 60GB or 80GB HDD, Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11b/g WiFi, two USB one miniUSB ports, and a battery promising 10 hours idle / 7 hours video playback. Yeah, we’re not sure about that netbook-caliber processor either, but surely that MID form factor makes up for something… right?

Unichal unveils portable, pocketable DIXAU DX3 dictionary

At first glance, this looks a tiny bit like a flip phone of yesteryear, sure. Closer inspection, however, will prove it to be… a tiny dictionary! Korean company Unichal’s recently shown off its newest pocket dictionary, the DIXAU DX3. This tiny source of knowledge boasts a built-in camera which can scan unknown words and deliver definitions on the front facing stylus-enabled touchscreen. The unit boasts a microSD card for multimedia storage, and is also equipped with the ability to speak back words to you — in case you really can’t be bothered to read them for yourself. It’s available now in Korea, and though we doubt it’ll ever make its way to the US of A, we’ll keep watch for you. There’s one more shot after the break.

Hello Kitty gets another 12.1 meowgapixel camera to celebrate her 35th anniversary

Can you believe that Hello Kitty’s turning 35? She sure does look great for her age! Surprisingly this is not the first 12.1 megapixeled Casio digicam we’ve seen outed to commemorate this most special of occasions — but it certainly comes in some of the hottest pinks we’ve seen thus far. This limited edition, Korea-only Casio EX-Z90 boasts all the same features as the regular one — 3X optical zoom, auto-detect and “Intelligent” autofocus — plus those megapixels we already mentioned. Really, the biggest selling point here is the blinged up branding, and we’d assume that makes it worth the KRW 350,000 (around $300) price tag.

Acer debuts 23-inch T230H multitouch monitor

Acer hasn’t exactly been slacking when it comes to Windows 7-related hardware, but it looks like its still putting the final touches on its launch line-up, with it now rolling out a new multitouch monitor to complement its range of laptops and desktops. What’s more, at a full 23-inches, the company’s new T230H monitor best similar offerings from Dell and HP in terms of sheer size, and it packs some respectable specs across the board, including a full 1920 x 1080 resolution, a 2ms response time, a promised 80,000:1 contrast ratio (take that with the usual grain of salt), and an HDMI port in addition to DVI and VGA. Still no official word on US pricing, it seems, but this one will apparently run €349 in Europe (or just over $500).

MPIO V7 PMP hits October 26th, 2009, we struggle to contain ourselves

It’s been a pretty long while since we heard anything from MPIO — so this is certainly good news. The V7 — a 3-inch PMP which will apparently boast a (possibly capacitive) touchscreen LCD, an accelerometer, and an FM radio, at a thickness in the neighborhood of 10.5mm. We also know that it’ll come in both 4GB and 8GB varieties — but specs beyond this are sadly absent. We’ll see what else we can dig up for you, but look for it to run ₩129,000 for the 4GB model and ₩159,000 ($109 and $134, respectively) for the 8 when it launches on Korea on October 26th.

273 Apple stores now open, up 15. Apple is spending $400 million a year on stores. It remodeled 72 of them and opened 26 new stores in the quarter. That means some Apple stores closed in the quarter.

45.9 million visitors to Apple stores in the quarter, up from 42.7 million a year ago. Average revenue per store is $7.1 million per quarter, down from $7.6 million a year ago.

Apple has $23.4 billion in cash and short-term investments. With long-term investments included, Apple has $34 billion in current assets, up from $31 billion last quarter.

Samsung’s LED TV Couple packs a 7-inch tablet remote for streaming TV and so much more

Without much fanfare, Samsung has released a TV / tablet combo in Korea that seems to deliver on all the untapped promise in Toshiba’s JournE touch tablet. Dubbed the LED TV Couple, Samsung has paired a 55-inch LED baclkit LCD TV with a brand new 7-inch touchscreen tablet, which communicates with and controls a full home theater over 802.11n WiFi. The tablet offers a visual program guide, including video previews of TV shows, along with access to media stored on a PC — which can in turn be “tossed” up to the full TV — and even a few widgets. But the real money is in the pair’s ability to stream live TV and Blu-ray content from the home theater to the tablet, making that next trip to the kitchen for munchies so much less painful. No word on a US or Europe release, but we hope to see a lot more of this pair in the near future. Peep them in action after the break.
