Portable NES modded into a cartridge, hearts modded into love

We’ve seen NES mods that incorporate a screen and controls into a cartridge in the past, but this example from Airz in BenHeck’s forums is just so clean and well-polished that we had to give it some love. Inside Airz says it’s just a generic Chinese media player that can play NES, Gameboy, and Gameboy Color ROMs, along with the relevant controller bits, a 2.8-inch LCD, 4GB of storage, and a rechargeable battery. Oh, and if you’re feeling particularly retro, you can hook it up over TV-out and play on the big screen. Not bad — and it’s for sale if you’re as in love as we are. Video after the break.

facebookconnectwizardOver the last ten months, Facebook Connect has flourished as a tool to not only minimize login and sign-up minutiae, but to allow developers and content creators to add a social link to their sites and services.

Yesterday, Facebook introduced Translations for Facebook Connect as a way to make site translation faster and easier. In blog post, Facebook also introduced two additional tools: the Facebook Connect Wizard and Playground as a way to make implementing Facebook Connect easier for developers and content creators alike.

The Facebook Connect Wizard is just what it sounds like – a way to incorporate Facebook Connect into your website in three steps. Just enter in your URL, upload a file to your server so that Facebook Connect can talk to your site, and then find the social markup and integration tools you want to add on the backend of your site. Playground for Facebook Connect provides code samples for adding Facebook Connect buttons, profile images and friends to your site.

Facebook says it will continue to add samples and resources to the Playground and that it will continue to improve the Facebook Connect resources. If you have wanted to add Facebook Connect to your existing website, these tools might be just the helping hand you need.

Do you use Facebook Connect on your sites? How did you set up the implementation?

YouTube Auto Buffer Makes the Popular Video Site a Lot Better [Downloads]

Firefox with Greasemonkey: The YouTube Auto Buffer Greasemonkey script tweaks the popular video sharing site to fix some of its most common annoyances. Specifically, it stops videos from automatically playing, turns on HD/HQ playback for all videos, and hides in-video advertisements.

All three of the tweaks YouTube Auto Buffer makes can be toggled, so if you’d really like to get rid of in-video ads but don’t want to always watch videos in HD or prefer that videos play automatically, you can just disable the two unwanted features. Or at least they can be toggled in theory. I had trouble getting my preferences to stick, so your mileage may vary.

Either way, it’s a nice little script that aims to fix some users’ common YouTube annoyances. For some other YouTube-specific tweaks, check out our very own Better YouTube Firefox extension. (With any luck, maybe we can convince Gina to incorporate some of the YouTube Auto Buffer features into said add-on.)

YouTube Auto Buffer is a free download, works with Firefox and the Greasemonkey extension.

Design Your Own Exercise Program Using Seven Key Moves [DIY]

Some people have the luxury of a personal trainer to create their exercise routines for them. For the rest of us, web site Dumb Little Man has outlined seven key movements worth considering when designing a fitness program.

According to the post, any good exercise program should incorporate the following seven movements: squats, lunges, bends, twists, pushing, pulling, and walking/running.

The key step is deciding how much and which movements to implement. To get you started, Dumb Little Man suggests the following:

To give you an idea, that maximum you’d get out of this program would be to perform 3 groups of each exercise (sets), with each group containing between 8 and 15 repetitions. To keep it interesting, and also to maximize energy and fat loss, perform one group of each exercise back-to-back with no rest, take a 2 minute break, and then repeat two times.

Browse the full post for more details on how to design your own program and, if you exercise, let us know if your routine involves any of the above seven moves in the comments.
